Frequently Asked Questions![]() Can you bronze shoes that aren't leather or plastic? What about sneakers or tennis shoes? Can you bronze shoes that have already been done by another company? Can you bronze anything other than baby shoes? Why is the price so expensive? Why is it cheaper through the mail? Can you leave the laces untied? What if the shoes are longer than 6 inches? How do you care for the bronzed shoes? ![]() Can you bronze shoes that aren't leather or plastic? We cannot process felt, velvet or fur shoes. And we prefer not to process knitted, crocheted, lace-trimmed or terry shoes/slippers and will only do so at the customer's own risk when possible. (Consequently, we can't guarantee the workmanship on these shoes.) These loose or soft materials don't hold their shape well during plating and tend to become stretched or misshapen. We urge the customer to use a pair of leather or vinyl shoes if they are available. ![]() What about sneakers or tennis shoes? Sneakers are now a large portion of our business and they look terrific. The antique bronze finish looks and processes best on these shoes. ![]() Can you bronze shoes that have already been done by another company? Yes. We can make the finish look beautiful but we cannot reshape them. Use the same pricing as for a new pair of shoes. ![]() Can you bronze anything other than baby shoes? We can bronze almost anything in antique bronze, bright bronze, pewter, silver or gold. However, the antique bronze finish usually gives the best appearance. ![]() Why is the price so expensive? This is the best quality available. All work is hand-crafted through 18 steps and no automation is involved. And the workmanship is covered by our full 25-Year Warranty. ![]() Why is it cheaper through the mail? We often reprocess shoes which have been done through the mail. Our plating is thicker, our bases are made of all-metal or real wood and the shoes are mounted to the bases with screws. ![]() Can you leave the laces untied?Sorry but we must tie the laces or they will break off during processing. All shoes are tied the same way; where the bows lay to the sides. ![]() What if the shoes are longer than 6 inches? These are considered oversized shoes and will not fit on our standard bases so they are only available as an unmounted style 51 or 52. To price shoes between 6-8 long, please email us.(Any shoe over 8 long will be priced as an adult shoe.) ![]() How do you care fot the bronzed shoes? Just wipe with a soft dry cloth occasionally. Never use a polish or cleaner as they will cut through the protective lacquer coating that preserves the finish. ![]() Can shoe laces or buttons be added?Yes, but at a nominal cost and only at your specific request. ![]() Can shoes be bronzed as is?No, All shoes must be shaped as if they are being worn or they can't be finished satisfactorily. ![]() Description of Finishes AvailableAntique Bronze-The shoes are copper plated then oxidized and polished. The oxidation darkens in the areas around the laces and creases and is lighter on the high spots. This finish brings out the highlights and personality of the baby's shoes. Bright Bronze-The shoes are a bright, highly polished copper finish and have the appearance of a shiny, new penny. Pewter-The shoes are zinc plated and then oxidized. These steps give them the look of aged pewter. Silver-The shoes are plated with a pure 99.9% silver. Gold-The shoes are plated with 23+ karat gold. Porcelainized-The shoes are coated with a durable white epoxy which gives them the look of fine china. They are then hand-trimmed in pink, blue or gold. For an additional charge, the child's name and birthdate can be hand-lettered onto the toes of the shoes. ![]()
